FIRST FULLY DIGITAL TRANSIT BETWEEN ASIA AND EUROPE

A pilot intermodal consignment of containers was dispatched from the Chinese port of Ningbo to Kolyadichi station in the Republic of Belarussia via the port of Vladivostok and transitting across the Russian Federation.

The shipment was within the framework of the INTERTRAN project and organised by Russian Railways (official partner of Open Innovations 2020) in cooperation with Belarusian Railways and the FESCO transport group. It is the first Asia – Europe transit container shipment which has been processed entirely in digital format.

At present, INTERTRAN technology has already been replicated across the entire network of Russian Railways and used to transport more than 6,000 thousand containers.

A direct effect of introducing the new technology was a four-day reduction in the time required for cargo clearance by using only electronic shipping documents and transit declarations and carrying out all cooperation with the customs authorities digitally.

The benefits of the INTERTRAN project were especially evident in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic since it enabled contacts between people during the transportation process to be reduced to a minimum since all the processing was done digitally.
