Deep Tech. Dawn of the Deep Tech Startups
The traditional accelerator model consists of a short period (often a few months) of intense learning. The accelerator usually provides limited financial support and access to a network of professionals and seasoned entrepreneurs who act as coaches and mentors to help develop product, business model and accelerator sales that help web and mobile application startups. In contrast to web and mobile applications, deep tech is characterized by its fairly long and costly R&D phase. It most often originates in the basic research labs of universities. Therefore, it has been developed without specific market or user needs in mind which represents the second differentiating characteristic of deep tech.
Deep Tech innovations lie at the crossroads of massive shifts in demand led by megatrends (such as global climate change, demographic shifts, resource scarcity, and an aging population) and scientific progress (such as the discovery of the CRISPR-Cas microbial adaptive immune system) and are impacting all industries. In light of the above, it is important to evaluate the impact of current support structures (startup studios, incubators, accelerators) on deep tech startups, and share best practices from the most successful ones that will be discussed in this session
